Where Is Singapore Situated? Where Is Singapore Located?

Where is Singapore situated? Where is Singapore located on the world map? Here is the answer and more…

Where Is Singapore Situated?

Singapore is located between Malaysia in the north and Indonesia in the south. Pulau Ujong, the main island, is precisely connected to this Malay Peninsula by two bridges. The first, the Johor-Singapore Causeway, arrives at the border town of Johor Bahru in Malaysia. The second, the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link, to the west, connects the outskirts of Johor Bahru to neighborhoods in the Tuas region.

Singapore, in long form the Republic of Singapore, is a city-state of Southeast Asia. Its area is 719,1 km2. It comprises 63 islands, the main one being Pulau Ujong (584.8 km2). This island is very densely urbanized, but the lush vegetation – even in the city center – has earned Singapore the nickname of “Garden City”. This abundance of greenery stems in part from an equatorial, uniformly hot and stormy climate throughout the year. Its population density is the highest in Asia and the second largest in the world.

The State of Singapore is located at the southernmost tip of the Malay Peninsula, from which it is separated to the north by the Straits of Johor, and borders the Singapore Strait to the south. It is known and often shown as an example for his extraordinary economic success. After independence in 1965, Singapore was able to become, with very few natural resources and significant socio-economic problems – racial riots, massive unemployment, housing difficulties and access to water – one of the most the most developed and prosperous countries in the world, in terms of economy, education, health, security and urban planning. The city, sovereign city, is a Chinese reduction in the very heart of the Malay world: the population is mainly composed of Chinese (74.3%). This ethnic confrontation arose in part from the unrest which accelerated its withdrawal from Malaysia on 9 August 1965.

In the 1980s, the country joined Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan, four Asian dragons, states in transition and unbridled economic development. In 2011, Singapore is the third largest country in the world in terms of per capita purchasing power parity (PPP) GDP after Qatar and Luxembourg. Commercial and financial hub between the Pacific zone and Europe, the city owes its rise to its exceptional maritime situation at the eastern end of the Strait of Malacca, which earned it the nickname: “City on the borders of the East” “. It has the second largest port in the world (after Shanghai) in terms of exports and maritime traffic. The Singaporean population has a very high standard of living and the City-State is often nicknamed “Switzerland of Asia”. In 2009, Singapore had the highest concentration of millionaires reported to the total population ahead of Hong Kong (China), Switzerland, Qatar and Kuwait.

Presenting remarkable political stability, Singapore is today considered an “authoritarian democracy” or “benevolent dictatorship”, with the same family in power since independence. The city-state is therefore considered a country practicing economic liberalism without political liberalism.

The city center is located in the south of Pulau Ujong Island, at the mouth of the Singapore River (Singapore River). It includes a business center that has made the city the fourth largest financial center in the world, as well as various ethnic neighborhoods (Chinese, Malay, and Indian) and a large commercial area around Orchard Road.

Its economy is based on banking and financial services (second largest financial center in Asia after Japan), trade, shipping (the world’s second largest port behind Shanghai for cargo tonnage with 501.566 million tons in 2010, but also in containers for the same year with 28,431,100 TEUs), tourism, shipyards and petroleum refining (third largest refiner in the world).
